The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a directive requiring individuals holding more than 10 SIM cards to de-register the excess ones through their mobile operators by October 30, 2025.

How to Check Registered SIMs

Subscribers can verify the number of SIMs registered under their National Identification (NID) by dialing *16001#.

New SIM Limit & Deadline

Effective August 1, 2025, the BTRC has imposed a new rule capping the maximum number of SIMs per customer at 10 under a single NID. All additional SIMs must be deactivated by the October 30 deadline.

Background & Rationale

  • SIM registration became mandatory in Bangladesh in 2015, with the initial limit set at 15 SIMs per user in 2017.

Due to increasing fraud, misuse, and criminal activities linked to multiple SIMs, the BTRC reduced the limit to 10 in May 2025 to strengthen security.

Current SIM Statistics

  • Bangladesh has 67.59 million registered SIM users.

  • 80.32% of users have 5 or fewer SIMs.

  • 16.23% hold 6–10 SIMs.

  • 3.45% (approx. 2.6 million users) possess 11–15 SIMs.

Impact of the New Rule

Around 6.7 million excess SIMs will need to be deactivated to comply with the revised regulations.
